I am a hands-on type of person and I have found, that the greatest lessons we learn, are through life experience. It is when we learn through experience, that we take what we learn "to heart".
The best lessons I have learnt, about Christ and the work He does for our salvation, has been through my experience as a member of a wilderness rescue team, performing vertical (abseiling) and swiftwater rescue.
I have learned that people react in three different ways, when faced with the realization that they are in a life threatening situation, especially when it comes to being caught in a swiftly flowing current (whitewater).
They will either panic and in their panic and struggle, wear themselves out and resist any rescue attempt. Or, they will go to the other extreme and react with what we call anti-panic, in that they make themselves believe that it's not really happening and completely blank out and become totally non-responsive, making any rescue attempt impossible. Or, they will humbly and calmly cooperate with the rescue technician.
We are all in the river of life. However, there are two different currents you can take.
This world we are in and the way of it, all comes from the sinful nature of the survival instinct and it is the fear for our survival, that keeps us in bondage to it and caught in it's current.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I have taken the road less travelled, the narrow path and I not only sought out the kingdom of God, I found it and God has told me to help rescue others from the current of the world.
And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren."Luke 22:31-32
You are caught in the wrong current and while you have any part of the world and do not step out of it altogether, you are headed for the falls. It may seem to you, as if it's all ok. You may even enjoy the current and go with it. But the time will come, further down the river, when you have become so caught up in the current and it is so strong, as it does the closer it gets to the fall, that it will be too late for you.
I urge you to listen to what I am telling you. God has sent me to rescue you and call all His true believers "out of the world" altogther and all together, to live the true way of eternal life in His absolute love and march in victory over the world and the sinful nature of the survival instinct it serves.
This is the march of the saints and if you continue to resist, from the pride of self (ego), doubt and the fear for your survival, and make yourself believe it's not really happening, you will "miss the boat" and end up going over the falls.
There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.Proverbs 14:12
